Firmware versioning

Firmware versioning is implemented in a semantic manner. This approach utilizes three numerical components for each software version, following the Major.Minor.Patch sequence. When a major, minor, or patch update occurs, the corresponding number is incremented.

  • Major version changes are related to incompatible firmware changes.

  • Minor version changes are related to adding new functionality in a backward-compatible manner.

  • Patch version changes are related to bug fixes which are also backward compatible.

The version number is incremented by one digit, based on the nature of the modifications implemented in the new versioning.

For instance, software version 1.3.1 indicates that the software is in its first major version, with three additional functionalities incorporated, along with one patch fix applied. When a developer addresses a bug in that version, the subsequent release is designated as version 1.3.2.
